The hospital has the unique opportunity to see the complete spectrum of leprosy patients which most hospitals in the west, where leprosy is largely eradicated, cannot. Research is divided into Leprosy and Clinical groups. The Lab also publishes a number of scientific papers.

Leprosy Research

With a patient base of 350,000 new cases per year, research into the cause, transmission, detection, treatment and eradication of leprosy are absolutely vital.

Clinical Research

The hospital also conducts research into non-leprosy medicine.

Nepal is a developing country which cannot always have the luxury of the same expensive operations that richer countries are accustomed to. Research into more effective, cheaper ways of improving a persons lifestyle are crucial.
